Location
Maya Ubud Resort & Spa is a 5-star luxurious hotel, ideally located just a few minutes from central Ubud, making it the perfect base for exploring Bali’s famous rice terraces, temples, and cafés, while still feeling completely secluded. Surrounded by lush jungle and the peaceful Petanu River, the resort offers a serene escape with the perfect mix of nature and convenience.
The resort offers a complimentary shuttle service to Ubud town throughout the day, making it super easy to pop in for sightseeing, shopping, or dinner without the stress of navigating traffic or finding parking.
Getting There
From Ngurah Rai International Airport, the drive to Maya Ubud takes around 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic. The roads around Ubud can be busy, especially during peak hours, so be sure to allow extra time if you’re heading back to the airport or catching a tour.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with a refreshing welcome drink and cool towel — a small but thoughtful gesture that set the tone for the relaxing stay ahead.
Room Types
Impressive Forest Suite
Maya Ubud offers a range of accommodation options to suit every type of traveler, from spacious suites to luxurious private pool villas — there’s something for everyone.
We stayed in the Impressive Forest Suite and absolutely loved it. The room felt like a peaceful retreat, with plenty of space, elegant décor, and large windows that brought the surrounding jungle right into the room.
Heavenly Pool Villa with Butler Service
Maya also has other types of rooms. For an even more luxurious experience, I highly recommend booking the Heavenly Pool Villa with butler service. It offers complete privacy, a stunning private pool, and personalized attention that makes your stay feel extra special.
We didn’t book the private villa this time, as we had already stayed in a private pool villa at our second hotel in Udaya Bali and wanted to try a different experience. If you’re curious, I have a full blog post about that stay — it’s a completely different vibe and definitely worth reading!
Activities & Experiences
Swimming Pools
Even if you don’t have a private pool in your villa, you’ll love that Maya Ubud has two stunning swimming pools for guests to enjoy.
- Main Pool: The main pool sits at the heart of the resort, surrounded by lush greenery, sun loungers, and umbrellas — the perfect spot to relax.
- Infinity Riverside Pool: For a more secluded experience, head down to the Infinity Riverside Pool, overlooking the lush Petanu River valley — this was my favorite spot at Maya Ubud. It’s the perfect place to unwind in peace while taking in the breathtaking jungle views.
Right above the pool, you’ll also find the River Café, where you can order refreshing drinks or light bites without ever leaving your sun lounger. Just press a button, and the staff will come right over to take your order.
Flower Bath Experience
One of Maya Ubud’s signature experiences is their stunning flower bath at the award-winning spa. The bath is beautifully arranged with vibrant petals and set in a serene, jungle-view pavilion that feels private and tranquil.
The flower bath in Maya was one of the 15 things I wanted to do in Ubud. It’s the perfect way to unwind after a massage or treatment, with every detail designed for relaxation and Instagram-worthy moments.
They even served me a warm kettle of ginger tea with biscuits, which made the experience feel extra special. The staff are warm and attentive, making sure you feel comfortable and even helping capture the perfect photo.
Tip: Be sure to book in advance, as this popular experience fills up quickly.
The Award-Winning Spa
If relaxation had a home, it would be the Spa at Maya Ubud. The treatment rooms feel like private sanctuaries, opening up to lush jungle views with the soothing sounds of nature all around. It’s the perfect setting to completely switch off and unwind.
We booked a couples Balinese massage, and it was pure bliss. Listening to the jungle and the sound of the river while being pampered made the experience unforgettable.
On arrival, we were greeted with fresh ginger tea and invited to choose our preferred massage oils. Every detail felt thoughtful and calming, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations.
Morning Yoga
During your stay at Maya Ubud, don’t miss the opportunity to join the yoga classes.
Maya Ubud offers complimentary morning yoga classes in a peaceful bamboo pavilion with stunning jungle views. It’s such a lovely way to start the day feeling refreshed and connected to nature, and it’s a truly breathtaking experience.
The sessions start every morning at 7:00 am and are suitable for all levels. You can also reserve a private yoga session for an additional charge if you want a more personalized experience. Mats are provided, so all you need to bring is yourself.
Complimentary Activities
I loved that Maya Ubud offers a variety of complimentary activities for guests. You can explore the Maya Forest Trails or join a village trekking tour.
Make sure to book activities at the reception in advance. We had planned to do the rice paddy walk, but unfortunately, it was canceled due to rain.
Dining
Maya Ubud’s Distinct Dining Options
Maya Ubud is home to three distinct restaurants, each offering its own unique atmosphere and culinary experience:
- Mayasari: Serves an expansive buffet breakfast and hosts cultural dinners in the evening. The buffet breakfast deserves a special mention – it’s the best hotel buffet breakfast I’ve ever had, featuring everything from Indonesian, Indian, and Japanese dishes to fresh fruit, pancakes, waffles, baked treats, and a made-to-order egg station.
Add in barista-made coffee and the tranquil morning views, and you’ve got the perfect way to start the day.
- Tree Bar: A relaxed all-day dining venue beside the infinity pool in the main building, perfect for casual bites with breathtaking forest valley views.
- River Café: Overlooks the serene riverside pool and offers drinks, often open till 6 pm.
The Staff
The staff at Maya Ubud Resort & Spa were absolutely wonderful. From reception to housekeeping to the restaurant and bar teams, everyone welcomed us with big smiles and genuine Balinese hospitality.
The restaurant and bar staff were attentive and quick to take orders, while additional requests were handled effortlessly. The spa and fitness teams were equally kind and helpful, making our massage treatments even more enjoyable.
Shuttle Bus Service
Maya offers a complimentary shuttle bus service to the center of Ubud, running daily from 9:00 AM until the last departure at 5:20 PM. It’s a convenient way to leave the resort and explore the town without worrying about transportation.
We spent a lovely day wandering around and having lunch in Ubud, and the shuttle made getting there and back effortless.
If you prefer not to wait, you can also use popular ride-hailing apps like Grab or Gojek to get around quickly. Having an eSIM on hand made this especially easy, giving us the freedom to order rides on the spot without hassle. It’s a great option for flexible travel during your stay.
Final Thoughts
Our stay at Maya Resort & Spa was nothing short of magical. Every detail felt intentional and full of heart, making it one of the most memorable places we’ve stayed in Bali.
If you’re seeking a peaceful retreat that beautifully blends wellness, nature, and luxury, Maya Ubud truly delivers and trust me you will not be disappointed.
