I stayed here for three nights during my solo trip to Rome, so here’s exactly what my experience was like. Located just steps from the Trevi Fountain, this hotel allowed me to walk to many of Rome’s famous landmarks while staying in the heart of the historic centre.
In this review, I’ll share my honest experience, including the rooms, rooftop views, breakfast, location and the reality of what to expect and whether it’s the right choice for your Rome trip.
Why Stay at Hotel Relais Fontana di Trevi? My Experience
One of the biggest reasons to stay at Relais Fontana di Trevi is its unbeatable location. If you’re looking for hotels near Trevi Fountain in Rome, it’s hard to find a more convenient option.
The hotel is literally next to the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome’s most iconic landmarks and one of the top things to do in Rome, and you honestly can’t stay any closer.
Since I only had three days in Rome, staying here saved me so much time. Most of the city’s major attractions were within walking distance, so I spent less time on transport and more time exploring.
Another thing I loved was the neighbourhood. The area around the Trevi Fountain is one of the best places to stay in Rome, especially for first-time visitors. It’s lively, full of restaurants, cafés, and gelato shops, and despite being busy, I felt completely safe. As a solo female traveller, I was comfortable walking around both during the day and at night.
One of my favourite parts of staying here is being able to experience the Trevi Fountain without the crowds. Instead of travelling across the city at sunrise, I simply walked outside early in the morning and had the fountain almost to myself. I also loved seeing it again late at night when it was beautifully illuminated, it felt so magical.
The best part was being able to see the Trevi Fountain several times throughout my stay. Seeing it for the first time was a real pinch-me moment, but getting to return again and again made the experience even more special. I think you’ll understand exactly what I mean when you see it for yourself.
The hotel also has a rooftop bar overlooking the Trevi Fountain. It was the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon aperitivo while taking in one of the best views in the city.

What to Expect at Relais Fontana di Trevi
Relais Fontana di Trevi is a three-star hotel located inside a small historic building in the heart of Rome, so don’t expect a large luxury hotel experience like the Four Seasons or Hyatt. There is no pool or resort-style facilities, so if you’re looking for a big hotel with extensive amenities, this might not be the right choice for you.
However, since I was spending most of my days exploring Rome, the location and comfort of the room mattered much more to me than having extra amenities. After long days of walking around the city, visiting attractions, and soaking up Rome’s history, it was important to come back to a clean, cosy, and comfortable room where I could relax and recharge.

From the hotel, you can easily walk to:
- Trevi Fountain (less than 1 minute)
- Spanish Steps (8 minutes)
- Pantheon (10 minutes)
- Piazza Navona (15 minutes)
- Colosseum (around 20 minutes)
The Vatican was the only major attraction that I found less convenient to reach on foot, taking around 35–40 minutes.
Getting to the Hotel
Relais Fontana di Trevi is easy to reach from Rome Fiumicino Airport. The quickest option is to take a taxi or Uber, which typically takes around 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. Alternatively, the hotel can arrange an airport shuttle for an additional fee.
If you’re travelling by public transport, take the Leonardo Express train to Roma Termini, then continue by taxi or Metro before walking a short distance to the hotel.
As the hotel is located in Rome’s historic centre, vehicles cannot stop directly outside the entrance, so you’ll need to walk a short distance from the nearest drop-off point.
The main building has a lift, although there are a few steps before reaching it. I asked the staff to assist me with luggage.
Accommodation and Room Types
I stayed in the Junior Suite with a Trevi Fountain view, and it was beautifully furnished with a comfortable bed, a seating area, television, and a spacious ensuite bathroom. The elegant décor, combined with vintage-style wall paintings, gave the room a luxurious yet romantic feel.
The suite included air conditioning, a mini fridge, tea and coffee facilities, an LCD television, a digital safe, a heated towel rail, complimentary toiletries, and a hairdryer.
One thing that really impressed me was how quiet the room was. Despite being located beside one of Rome’s busiest attractions, the soundproof windows blocked almost all of the street noise, allowing for a peaceful night’s sleep.
Although my room was advertised as having a view of the Trevi Fountain, the view was fairly limited. You could see part of the fountain, but not as much as I had expected.
In addition to the Junior Suite, the hotel also offers Double Rooms, Superior Rooms, Triple Rooms and Family Rooms.

Other Amenities and Services
Relais Fontana di Trevi provides complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the property, and I found the connection to be fast and reliable during my stay.
Guests can also store their luggage free of charge before check-in or after check-out, making it convenient if you have an early arrival or late departure.
Breakfast
Breakfast is available for an additional charge and is served each morning in the hotel’s rooftop terrace.
Personally, I chose not to book breakfast because there were several great bakery options nearby, including L’Antico Forno di Fontana di Trevi, located directly underneath the hotel. Each morning, I enjoyed a fresh cornetto and espresso from a local bakery and ate breakfast while taking in the view of the Trevi Fountain.
If you’re like me and prefer experiencing local cafés and bakeries, this is a great alternative and one of the simple pleasures of staying in such a central location.

One of the hotel’s hidden gems is its rooftop terrace overlooking the Trevi Fountain, located on the third floor.
During the afternoon and evening, the terrace transforms into a lovely spot for an aperitivo. While drinks aren’t cheap here, but you are paying for one of the best views in Rome.
Pricing and Value for Money
Relais Fontana di Trevi isn’t a budget hotel, but considering its unbeatable location overlooking one of Rome’s most famous landmarks, I think it offers good value for money, and let’s face it hotel prices in Rome aren’t cheap.

My Verdict: Is Relais Fontana di Trevi Worth Staying At?
After staying at Relais Fontana di Trevi for three nights, I would recommend it for travellers who want to experience Rome from one of the most convenient locations in the city. The biggest advantage is the location as you can step outside and be at the Trevi Fountain within seconds, while many of Rome’s famous landmarks are within walking distance.
It is not the right choice if you are looking for a large luxury hotel with extensive facilities, but for a short city break where your priority is location, comfort and experiencing Rome on foot, I think it is a fantastic option
